South Lakes Speech & Language Therapy provides independent advice and support for nurseries and schools who have students who are identified with, or at risk of, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). Support can be provided alongside NHS services as well for children not currently receiving NHS input and those who do not meet criteria for NHS input.
Services provided include:
- One-off and longer-term input.
- Individual and year group speech and language developmental screenings.
- Individual assessments with detailed reports including recommendations and therapy targets.
- Individual and/or group therapy sessions.
- Reports and recommendations for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), Annual Reviews, and transition.
- Advice around supporting mealtimes for selective eaters in an education setting.
- Advice around educator-led communication support in a classroom setting.
- Advice around creating a communication friendly, inclusive classroom.
For children with complex communication and learning needs, South Lakes Speech & Language Therapy can provide individually tailored advice to support behaviour, language and communication skills in setting. Frequently strategies include the use of visual aids and a structured teaching approach that focuses on a child’s strengths and developing their functional skills. Close collaboration with a child’s teacher and teaching assistant / one-on-one support person is key to success.
