Words are the building blocks of communication!
Every time your child learns a new word, they gain another way to understand the world, share their thoughts and feelings, and connect with the people around them.
Children need to understand and use a variety of word types in order to be successful communicators, and this learning starts from birth. Babies and young children are listening to the words people around them say and building their vocabulary even before they can talk. Many children do this naturally, but others need help along the way.
If your child needs support learning and using different word types, being intentional about the words you use with your child can help them build the vocabulary they need. Use this list of body parts and clothing to help you think about which words your child knows and which words they need you to help them learn.
